filtering through the process
For our positive impact on our community, we decided to create water filters that filter out benzene. These filters would include activated carbon, a porous substance that removes VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Through our research we learned that activated carbon in water can remove chemicals like benzene, toluene, and xylene in organic chemicals. We immediately started creating prototypes changing the order of the materials inside the filter. (Pictures are on the photos and videos page) We wanted to make our design open to the public domain, so we uploaded it onto thingiverse.com. Here is the link: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1586412
